Review of The Good Son (1993) by Mark L — 24 Oct 2012
I recall seeing this movie in the theatre as parents were upset as the Golden Child Star in Hollywood in the 90's was appearing as a psychotic killer. Mind you, I had no issues with that, the only problem I have with The Good Son is what the hell is his parents doing? This has to be the most uninvolved parents in film history.
Elijah Wood is staying at his uncle's place in Maine after the death of Wood's mother. There, he encounters Henry(Culkin)they become great friends immediately without parents' supervision, Mark(Wood) sees Henry for what he really is.
None of the grownups belief Mark as he is dealing with grief after his Mom's death. He bonds with Henry's mother(Wendy Crewson) who is dealing with her own tragedy(she needs therapy more than Mark, but I digress.
) It ends badly for little Mac towards the end of this film. Great camerawork and the film does not drag for it's 90 minutes. The script seems a bit choppy but legend has it Mac's controlling stage Dad demanding changes in the script.
But, overall this is not a bad way to spend your time.
