Review of The Good Lie (2013) by Mike K — 25 Jan 2015
Excellent, perspective-shaping movie. Don't pay attention to the marketing, this isn't a "Reese Witherspoon movie". She plays a supporting role, and the movie is mainly about the Sudanese refugees and their struggle to survive and relocate from their war-torn homeland.
The leads were played by actual Sudanese refugees, and the authoritative performances lend the movie a lot of weight and authenticity that probably couldn't be achieved with conventional actors. Heartbreaking and heartwarming in turns.
Do yourself a favor and see it.
