Review of The Good German (2006) by Jack W — 11 Feb 2008
I believe that Soderbergh achieved what he set out for, which is the only reason I'll give this two stars. I wanted to see this for some time and was VERY disappointed with the sub-par and uninvolving story, not to mention Tobey Maguire's EXTREMELY unlikable character who said "fuck" way too much for no reason. Like, to the point that it completely distracted me from the film.
Visually interesting, yes. But not interesting enough. Not even close. If you have an open mind (and aren't going to get all hung up on the specifics of what equipment they used, etc.), try contrasting this with what Tim Burton achieved with "Ed Wood". Interesting, no?
