Review of The Good German (2006) by Dominic D — 29 May 2008
Richard Roeper sums it up best: <<"The Good German" is to "Casablanca" what Oasis was to the Beatles -- not nearly as good as the original, deliberately derivative, but reasonably entertaining on its own merits.
>> And just like Oasis, style and technical brilliance save it from being relegated as a mere tribute. Some might see that as a backhanded compliment, but I prefer to see what the movie does right.
The performances and the visuals come to the rescue of a rather shallow script and "not quite right" story. It was fun on its own terms, but never comes close to the transcendence of its source.
