Review of The Good German (2006) by Giselle 'Wednesday' C — 07 Jun 2008
This is basically a film about George Clooney systematically getting his ass kicked. A noir imitation, the entire film feels forced and fakey. All of the actors, especially Cate Blanchett, seem to try to play a mood rather than an actual character.
Although it raises some interesting questions about the war (such as the United States' willingness to pardon Nazi war scientists), the film is ultimately far too stylized while its characters are far too underdeveloped.
The final scene, a "homage" to the noir film classic, Casablanca, just comes across as blatant plagiarism.
