Review of The Good German (2006) by Cathal M — 21 Jul 2008
I had high hopes for this film, but it never quite came together. While I can appreciate the attempt on the part of Clooney and Soderbergh to recreate the feel of noir (especially given noir's roots in German Expressionism), the humanistic drama and intrigue of "Casablanca," and postwar political thrillers, the story here never rises to the level of any of the films to which they owe their inspiration.
