Review of The Good Earth (1937) by Sam R — 28 May 2007
I'm always going to say that the film isn't as good as the book, but this is especially disappointing. Though the beginning portrays well the emotion of Wang Lung at acquiring his new wife, the departure from the ending loses most of the power of the written version.
The clear differences between the Chinese and non-Chinese actors also lessen the versimilitude, but this still was a fairly good movie.
