Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Earl Y — 08 Feb 2009
The famous dinner roll dance. The shoelace-as-spaghetti boiled boot-eating scene. The cabin on the edge of a cliff scene. The moment in the bar when Georgia Hale looks literally right through him. Chaplin's feisty gentleman tramp up against the wild American northwestern wilderness.
The narration and self-composed score he added years later only makes it better. Really do see this if you never have- it was once declared by an international film review board as the greatest movie ever made, believe it or not.
