Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Donald L — 05 Jan 2010
Hard to comment on a movie this culturally important. The gags invented for this movie were gimmicks and jokes that went on to be copies in cartoons, and comedies even to this very day. Definitely one of the tops of its time, and of Chaplin's game. Also a surprisingly deep story about a nice guy in love with a girl who claims to want nothing but a nice, honest man, who for the first part of the movie completely ignores the very man she is looking for even though he is standing next to her.
There are a few odd choices in editing (some cuts last for mere seconds and I find trouble explaining why it would ever be cut that way) but thats a very very minor complaint for what is an otherwise outstanding movie.
