Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Randal G — 16 Apr 2010
Chaplin at his greatest; but be sure to see the original 1925 silent cut and not the 40's re-release with the inter-titles cut out and Chaplin's narration added. The narration is often unneccesary, intrusive & states the obvious.
There is also the problem of excised footage--especially the whole original ending which is missing in Chaplin's re-edit. Unfortunately this version is now the "offical" one from the estate.
It has the best image however and is the most widely available.
