Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Mert Y — 30 Aug 2010
The beginning of comedies as we know them. Charlie Chaplin created a memorable, relevant, and lasting character that is still being recreated today in our comedies. The situational comedy modelled what we enjoy today.
He took a taboo subject (the donner party) and made it laughable. He relieved americans of their disgrace, and he made it okay to make controversial jokes. Where whould any of us be without him?
