Review of The God Who Wasn't There (2005) by Drew H — 19 Dec 2007
This really could have been done much better. I found myself agreeing with the school principal... the director was only there with an axe to grind and it really weakened the piece. He should have picked a school he had no personal association with and left his personal experiences out of it.
The tone was a little irritating too.
I was somewhat surprised that when discussing leviticus he didn't comment on all the other, equally important laws there which the "God Hates Fags" crowd prefers to ignore.
Major kudos for the bit on the Mel Gibson film's incredible violence (what was the statistic, after the first 15 minutes there are only 3 minutes in the entire film without some act of violence?).
It was somewhat sad that all of those devout christians didn't know about Paul spreading the early church (I can understand them not knowing about him thinking Jesus had never actually lived in our world, but they should at least know the guy's name). And not knowing Osiris and Dionysus? We learned about those guys in grade school when we covered mythology.
And yes, the film really seemed too short. I was expecting 90 minutes and it was only 45.. it seemed like there was a lot more to say.
