Review of The Glass House (2001) by Billy B — 07 Aug 2011
Ruby and Rhett's parent's have just died in a car accident. They are then put in the custody off old family friends the Glass's. Ruby soon feels uncomfortable and begins to wonder if they are really trying to get their $4m inheritence.
Whilst the film may not be the most original idea ever invented, it manages to keep the viewer occupied for the entire film. It may have been extremely predictable, but it was enjoyable enough for me to reccomend it. The ending was the most predictable thing about the movie, and whilst it is extremely hard to make this concept fresh and compelling, the maker's did an alright job.
The plot is very thin, so many scenes were just pointless. The character development of the main character Ruby was excellent. You really feel for her and the situation, which is something that makes the film's enjoyability go up.
The acting was great. LeeLee Sobieski was great as Ruby. She's always been great in everything, and this shows off another side of her. She's also very likeable in the role. Diane Lane is another great actress. Her performence was at times annoying but she was also a joy to watch. Then we get the sadistic Mr Glass, portrayed excellently by Stellan Skarsgard. He was at times chilling and terrifying.
Overall The Glass House is nothing special or original, but it compelling with great acting. My rating is 3/5.
