Review of The Glass Castle (2017) by Kandis A — 07 Oct 2017
Father's Rejection of the World, at the expense of his own family well being?
Father rejects the world, and tries to teach his own children, his own independent life philosophy, even to the extent, of rejecting simple basic human necessities, like a stable, safe home, food, basic necessities, that all children need, namely safety and protection. Jeannette chronicles, her struggles, to overcome poverty, homelessness, parents toxicity, untrustworthiness, alcoholism. To what extent should you as a parent uphold your own life philosophy, as a rejection of society 's norms, that it hurts your own children?
Near the end, she discovers that her parents had the financial ability not to be poor, and yet, they choose to make their family suffer, and so it is this distrust, that makes it harder to overcome.
Explores the same themes as Captain Fantastic, a father rejects the World, and tries to teach his children, his own philosophy, but the irony , is that this World, he so rejects, is the same World, his children must come to terms with, as they grow up, whether they like it or not.
