Review of The Glass Castle (2017) by Wayne M — 05 Oct 2018
The Glass Castle is a nearly film. It's nearly a good film but ends up a flawed and only adequate one. The source material is inspiring. The true story of Jeanette Walls and her dysfunctional parents and the havoc they wreak on her and her siblings is powerful and essential.
But from what I am told this film smooths a lot of the hard edges from the book, leaving the film falling somewhere between a lighthearted drama and a family tragedy. Brie Larson is superb as the adult Jeanette but the film is overlong and misshaped in tone to be truly effective.
