Review of The Giver (2014) by Patrick K — 02 Sep 2015
This film is one definately of 2 halves. It centres around a young receiver Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) who gets lessons on the human memories from the giver (Jeff Bridges) memories that are blocked from communities to avoid violence, war, famine and other negative things caused by human choice.
All of the training in the first part was a little slow moving however when it came to the second half of the film when Jonas makes the choice to free communities from the shackles its faster, slicker and much more enjoyable.
As a whole I fairly enjoyed the film even if it doesnt necessarily utilizes the acting prowess of Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep but still as an adaptation from another YA novel it was quite entertaining.
