Speaking as someone who never read the book that this film was based off of, I can only go by the enjoyment I got out of the movie instead of how close/far it was from the book. And I didn't really enjoy it.
The acting is dull, the writing is confusing, and I can't say that this film was well-directed, either. Combine those negative aspects, and you'll get one of the least memorable movies of the year.
