Review of The Gits (2008) by Derek G — 09 Dec 2010
I found this movie in the 99 cent bin in Chicago this summer. I was familair with the Gits and lead singer Mia Zapata who was violently raped and murdered on July 7/1993 in her hometown of Seattle Washington.
I expected it to be a collection of their songs, live performances etc, but had no idea what a great piece of film this is. Tracing their roots from a young punk band when Seattle was becoming "the place" in the early 90's and following the members after Mia is murdered and the eventual capture of the pig who killed her I finished the movie an emotional mess searching Amazon for Gits CD's, they have 4.
A great great movie, a lost talent RIP Mia Zapata. Genius.
