Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) by Brandon W — 15 Mar 2015
After watching the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I went in to the remake with no thoughts coming in and not be thinking that it's going to suck because it's a remake. David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is just as amazing as the original, if not, better than it.
They made the movie very different from the original, but still manage to create the same story which kudos to David Fincher and Steven Zaillian for knowing how to make a remake stand out on its own. The characters are just as memorable as the original, and it created the characters a bit differently too which I appreciated.
Rooney Mara is outstanding in this and whether people would ask whether she's better or Noomi Repace, I have no idea because I think that they are equally excellent in it and they never seem to be acting the same.
Daniel Craig is great in it and he has some funny moments in it which the original never seem to have. The chemistry between the two leads are great, and the soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is really good.
The opening title is the best opening I have ever seen. The effects were amazing in the opening, and Trent Reznor and Karen O.'s cover version of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song is really catchy which is rare because I'm not much of a fan of metal rock.
The ending is not as great as the original, but it's still a good ending that is nothing like you seen before. David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is one of the rare remakes that worked, one of the best remakes in a long time, and I hope that they make the sequels with the same crew, same director, and same writer as I know that they can only serve the source material justice.
