Review of The Gift (2015) by Eric H — 25 Jun 2016
Man it has been a long time since I saw one of these movies in the theater, or at all actually, so it was nice to breathe some fresh air separated from the Marvel movies and comedies both good and bad, but what does Hollywood do, they do what they do best, they make a somewhat clever and creepy movie, and then throw on an ending like that.
Really? Jason Bateman is actually quite good here which is a step up because a lot of times is his movies he doesn't even seem like he wants to be there but her he is effective, and Joel Edgerton, holy hell is this guy creepy, and weird, and I don't think he's really even trying to be either one.
He meets a new friend and wants to spend time with said friend, but his past demons haunt him and he acts a little off, actually a lot off. It held my interest for 1hr and 45 min of the 1hr 48 min running time, and then the ending came and I was left scratching my head.
But saying that, I can't say I completely hated it because for 9/10 it was pretty watchable with some good acting and some fancy camera work, but is blown with the ending, regardless if anybody understands it or not.
MILD RECOMMENDATION for the acting and the pretty intense and interesting story, you figure out the ending yourself.
