Review of The Gift (2015) by Mrtibster — 10 Aug 2015
Joel Edgerton... well done... well done.
The biggest surprise of the year so far goes to the fantastic film 'The Gift'
A film that I absolutely loved, but probably won't watch again for a long time, in a good way.
It makes you constantly nervous and uncomfortable, which was its intention.
Performances were fantastic:
Writer/Director/Actor Joel Edgerton nails it as Gordon, creating one of the most unnerving characters in recent history.
Jason Bateman steals the show here, going against his usual character type (Comedic) and creating a very realistic character (you always see the character, never Bateman playing a role).
Rebecca Hall is also great, creating another believable character.
Direction is fantastic, a great debut for Edgerton, and he is sure to bring more of his films to cinemas in the future, writing is also great throughout! Only issue with the film is that the pacing goes a little too slow at times, but that's if I'm being picky.
Overall a creepy but awesome film that is sure to draw in a crowd, and leave everyone satisfied, if a little unnerved.
