Review of The Giant Mechanical Man (2012) by Michelle A — 08 Jun 2013
The Giant Mechanical Man feels like it could have been more than it was. It clearly aspires to be something more than the conventional romantic comedy and Chris Messina and Jenna Fisher are both charming in their own lost-in-adulthood roles.
The issue is largely that the last third crams in unnecessary cliched rom-com moments that then aren't fully explored before the credits roll. While I might have wished that the "simple misunderstanding" road weren't taken, once it was, it needed to be seen through and not handled the way it was.
Still, Fischer, Messina and Topher Grace are solid enough to make it a fairly enjoyable watch.
