Review of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) by Samantha M — 21 Jun 2007
This is an oldy but a goody, loved this movie, trying to find it to buy it. A ghostly romantic fantasy about a widow that buys a house (occupied by a grouchy, hot-tempered sea captain called Captain Gregg wonderfully played by Rex Harrison noted for stage as well as film) Now Mrs.
Muir played by the beautiful and talented Gene Tierney will not let the Captain frighten her away. Later they would grow to love each other and Captain Gregg even convinces her to help him write his bold and bawdy tales of the sea, there is no surprise when it becomes a bestseller.
Sadly the Captain begins to fade away and Lucy looks at another suitor played by the incompreable George Sanders a rather smooth character that writes children's books. The music is truly haunting and the scenery is beautiful, sometimes the older movies are still the best and this one tops the rest!
