Review of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) by Cris F — 11 Feb 2005
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is a classic. Like the Wizard of Oz, It's a Wonderful Life, and Citizen Cane, this movie was not a box office smash but it has endured over the years due to the combination of a beautiful score by Bernard Herrmann, striking cinematography and the universal theme of lost love.
This is my first time seeing this film and I was so impressed with it that I watched/ listened to both commentaries offered on the DVD. One commentary focused on the story, its imagery and themes. The other took a historical overview of the development of the film, the craftsmanship behind it, and the censorship movies were subject to back then. Whether you have a soft spot for old films or not, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is worth checking out for your next romantic movie pick. .
