Review of The Getaway (1972) by Eric B — 21 Sep 2010
This movie features a husband-and-wife team of bank robbers played by Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw. Both became a real life couple during the making of this film, with Steve stealing Ali away from her film producer husband, Robert Evans.
I didn't like the movie. I feel it's too unevenly directed, using weird editing which just distracts from the story. The story itself feels too thin to keep your attention for 2 hours. Halfway through, I keep looking at the watch, waiting for it to end. None of the characters are memorable as well. Ali MacGraw's acting looks pretty wooden at times.
It was a hit for its time, but the times have given us much better cinematic bank robbers. Watch it for your own curiosity, nothing else.
