Review of The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987) by Freddy M — 26 Feb 2011
Who the hell was this movie made for? For children? The GPK's sing a song, that even Barney wouldn't touch, about "working together", over a montage of breaking and entering a shop to borrow (that is, steal) some sewing equipment.
The title characters belittle one another, threaten violence, and generally act as offensive and obnoxious as possible. The film lacks any dark comic touch for it to appeal to an older audience. The only audience it would have now is the nostalgic set who fondly remember a time when they didn't have any sense of what made for a quality film.
.. like me. And on that note, I must say that there is some fun to be had in revelling in the film's unrelenting awfulness.
