Review of The Game (1997) by Alex R — 01 Nov 2011
The Game plays it's cards very well, but sadly, in the end all your left with is a bluff. As much as I love Fincher, I can't get on board with this film. I loved the set up, I loved the scenes as they were individually, but I wished for a more reasonable conclusion.
Rather, this movie has a great need to unravel in more and more unpredictable ways, but is never able to tie up any loose ends, so it just keeps unraveling. I was actually expecting Fincher himself to walk onto the set and tell Douglas "It's just a movie!" It's a funny thing about blank bullets, they don't actually destroy shit.
And people don't-- never mind. All in all, I never fell for this movie (no pun intended) Recommended only to true Fincher fanatics.
