From the production studios who brought us “Insidious” and “Sinister”, comes a low-budget teen horror movie told in found footage style and a ridiculous derivative of “The Blair Witch Project”. The movie follows a story of four teenagers trapped in their school, and a night of terror awaits them after being faced with a vengeful spirit.

Through the years, the found footage gimmick has grown tired and has been an inherent problem with cinema. The Gallows, unfortunately, takes the trend of shaky cameras, loud noises and not effective jump scares in horror movies to offer us an interesting yet non-sense premise. The plot is a collection of contrivances that are all tied together which does not work effectively concerning with character development and horror elements.

Meanwhile, the four actors' roles are one-dimensional and bland, making their characters repulsive and unappealing in the movie. The Gallows also sets up atmosphere of claustrophobia but never pays off in the end.

VERDICT: This found footage movie is a clip of events tied together, which does not work because of plot contrivances, characters and horror elements.
