Review of The Gallows (2015) by That Guy C — 08 Aug 2015
One of the worst found footage movies that tries to be smart but fails in the end, The Gallows is a waste of time. First off, let me say that I like the found footage genre. It just keeps me entertained and makes me feel a part of the movie more.
This movie does none of that. The cameraman is a douchebag football player that has no respect for anybody or anything in the time we see and hear him. I was actually waiting for this character to die by Charlie. I couldn't wait.
There is only one semi-likable character named Reese who quit football to try out for the school play. Sadly, he sucks at acting. So him, the douchebag football player & his girlfriend plan to smash the set so Reese won't have to do the play and get out of it.
The school setting at night is pretty cool, but the killer is nothing special.
The Gallows is a play that was done 20 years ago and there was an unfortunate death of the cast member named Charlie who had a noose around his neck and suddenly the set piece broke under his feet causing him to die by hanging.
Some idiot decided "Hey! Lets sweep that death under the rug and redo the play now that it's been 2 decades.".
Was the Gallows scary? No, it was all jump scares.
Was it entertaining? Hardly, some of the football players jokes were funny, but most were cruel.
The characters will drive you crazy of how annoying and cruel they are, the story has many plotholes, and the ending tries to do a twist but ends up making no sense.
Don't see this movie. If you HAVE to, just wait til Redbox has it, but it isn't even worth that.
