Review of The Future (2011) by Olga T — 12 Nov 2011
Impressive. Unusual. Same old story though, at heart... a relationship gets a spotlight on it / a chance to evaluate itself... so what will happen? In this case, a slacker couple adopt a cat, and there is a month before it arrives (and shock, its arrival will force too much normal commitment onto them) what will they do? Any last wild ideas? Well, we find out, but in a defiantly non- mainstream way.
The cat is the narrator and there are various fantasy sequences. Me and the audience had a few belly laughs along the way. Not too downbeat at all. Definitely interesting and amusing. I would imagine that Miranda July is a bit like an artistically oriented, non-comic, film-making Miranda Hart.
