Review of The Fury (1978) by D. Aaron S — 30 Nov 2007
One of my favorite directors Brian DePalma directed this one, which is almost like his semi-sequel to Carrie, where Kirk Douglas' son with telepathic powers is kidnapped by a corrupt Government agency that wants to use him to fight wars or something, and Douglas sets out to find him with the help of another telepathic teen played by Amy Irving, who was also in Carrie.
Not the best DePalma film, but certainly far from the worst (Snake Eyes anyone? I've also heard Mission to Mars and Bonfire of the Vanities are pretty terrible too, but I haven't gotten to them yet).
It has one wonderfully set-up scene when Amy Irving and one of her teachers escape from the telepathy school, chased by the bad government people who also want to kidnap her, which is shot in slow motion with some wonderfully-ochestrated music by John Williams backing it up.
The film also ends with a body being blown up, which is shown in 13 quick cuts. Seriously...I counted.
