Review of The Fury (1978) by John H — 17 Jan 2012
This film was director Brian De Palma's follow-up to his highly successful film adaptation of Stephen King's novel CARRIE and like that film deals with the subject of telekinesis.Unfortunately though it wasn't met with the same reception as CARRIE which is a pity as THE FURY is an exciting, gripping, highly entertaining and in the end quite sad thriller.
Wonderfully directed by Palma,it again shows his mastery of his craft (the slow motion chase sequence is something to behold).De Palma was also fortunate to land two legends,Kirk Douglas and actor/director John Cassavetes as the hero and villain of the piece respectively and both are on great form here.
Amy Irving also deserves special mention for her wonderful performance in the female lead. The film is one of De Palma's more underrated efforts and all in all it's an absolutely cracking thriller.
That ending is fantastic as well,THE payoff of payoffs!Highly recommended.
