A film that seemed to follow on from the brit-coms that followed 'Four Weddings' but actually had more substance to it. It is actually closer to 'Brassed Off' but doesn't have that films drama.

That's probably why it proved so popular. The cast are up for it and look like they're having a ball, expecially when it comes to the final strip. Carlyle was already known from 'Trainspotting' but this film gave him an everyman quality that hadn't been seen in that film and he's used in such films as '28 Weeks Later'.

Hugo Speer, Mark Addy and (especially) Tom Wilkinson used the films popularity as a springboard to greater things. It's still really enjoyable and you can't help but love the balls (pun intended) of everyone involved.

A Brit classic.
