Review of The Fugitive (1993) by Caesar M — 05 Dec 2012
The Fugitive is a film adaption of the 1960s television series of the same name. I have not seen the television series, but the material that made its way onto this film should peak some curiosity if wanting more. The Fugitive is a solid intelligent thriller that delivers even if it is slow at times.
The Fugitive is about Dr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of murdering his wife, must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt. The first half of the movie is where most of the budget seems to have gone. We see Harrison Ford escaping from a prison truck, running from an off railed train chasing him, and jumping from a damn into a river. The second half does not feature any spectacles on the same scale which will disappoint. The second half features most of the interesting plot bits as we see the mystery unfold all in the while Ford avoiding the police. It is at times slow focusing on a key clue to solve the mystery or seeing Tommy Lee Jones doing an unnecessary interview that do little to move the plot forward. Overall though, the plot is usually keeping your attention without any explosions or without gunfights of any kind. Largely thanks to the excellent performances form leading actors Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones that drive the movie forward. You don't feel like their actors, but are the characters they are playing. Both actors portray a dynamic characters that are both intelligent in their own ways. Seeing these actors in the same film go against each other is very entertaining helping elevating this thriller above the average genre experience.
The Fugitive has an intelligence plot that will both thrill it viewers and retain their interest throughout the film duration. Also, Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones performances helps you get into plot and the excitement. The Fugitive is a great thriller that delivers on all front and should be seen if you're in the mood for a great thriller.
