Review of The Fugitive (1993) by Johnathon W — 18 Aug 2014
First-rate thriller thanks to a perfect cast and superb work by the director & writers. The cast is excellent, with Ford giving one of his best lead performances as Dr. Richard Kimbell, giving the right mix of compassion & intelligence that you root for him & believe he can stay one step ahead of the authorities.
Jones is brilliant in his Oscar winning turn as Marshal Sam Jarrad, playing him not as a bad guy but just a dedicated law officer trying to catch his man, whether he's guilty or innocent. Behind the camera, Twohy & Stuart's script is smart & focused on the main story, with nice nods to the TV show (from Kimbell helping others despite the risk of getting caught to Jarrad's growing doubts about his guilt) while Davis keeps the action move with some brilliant set-pieces (the train crash is even more impressive today giving it was done with practical effects).
Not just a great example of how to adapt a TV show to film but one of the best thrillers ever made.
