Review of The Frozen Ground (2013) by Jon C — 22 Aug 2013
The Frozen Ground 2013 written and directed by Scott Walker. Film stars Nicolas Cage (in his great performance since Adaptation), John Cusack (in surprising antagonist role serial-killer / kidnapper / rapist) also stars Vanessa Hudgens and 50 Cent. Film was released on Aug 23, 2013.
Set in 1983 Alaska, Nicolas Cage plays a sergeant who is fiercely pursing to hunt down prime-suspect serial-killer - kidnapper - rapist Robert Hansen (John Cusack); responsible for raping and murdering 17 girls. Police accounts 30 more murders of women 30 their bodies were never found in the wilderness of Alaska where Robert would go hunting.
A thrilling movie that has been given boost up performance from Nicolas Cage - you could be certain of his surprising performance once in a long time since Adaptation, or Leaving Las Vegas. John Cusack likewise shines on the screen playing antagonist character that puts a meek innocence on his ruthless hidden soul. The story of the film was first time told by living victim Cindy Paulson who ran out of his clutches.
Camera work is shaky and it beautifies the look of cold Alaskan nights and aggressive hunt - music and editing are timely perfect. The Frozen Ground balanced story and not too much of mingling. What a modest return of Cage with promising performance!
