Review of The Frozen Ground (2013) by Abraham S — 28 Oct 2013
Much better than I thought it was going to be with all the negative things I had read about it. I am glad that I have the ability to go into a film with a blank slate - allowing it every chance to show me what it wants rather than what I want to see.
Frozen Ground was pretty good. John Cusack reassures us all that he is a talent to be remembered and it is awesome to see Nicolas Cage back in action - playing a character in a film and not a misplaced version of himself.
Vanessa Hudgens, as gorgeously charming as ever, is powerful here - her talents on display for the world to see. Curtis Jackson surprised the living daylights out of me by even appearing in the film at all, but I really enjoyed his part.
Overall, the Frozen Ground was a well done thriller that could have risen above its kin but chose instead to waft in the sea of mediocre murder-chase movies of the early 21st century. Films based on actual events like this have so much potential - the material already laid out and waiting to be adapted - to be pulled from.
It makes them all the more chilling and relevant. I likely would not share this personally but I would definitely recommend it to movie buffs.
