Review of The Frozen Ground (2013) by Nathaniel M — 27 May 2014
Let me start out by saying I am a student of profiling and these types of films are some of my favorites. That being said, this was a completely average film with a good ending. It is the best when they make a film centered around a killer that no one knows about.
The reason being is because it took place in the secluded area of Alaska before I was born. I wont go into all of the details of the murders but the only thing that kept the movie interesting is the scenery.
It was a cold winter in Alaska and the perfect place for a serial killer to hide. Nicolas Cage's character is pretty much what nicolas cage is in a lot of his newer movies, boring. He has a true dedication to his job but nothing about his character stands out to make him different than any other cop in a crime film.
I assume that the real Robert Hanssen was an interesting person but the portrayal of him by John Cusack was rather stagnant. It wasnt until he lost his cool in the end of the film was their any real spark of life in him to make his character entertaining.
Overall, an average film that is probably not worth more than 2.5 stars but I gave it 3/5 because I like these types of films. If you also like these types of movies, check it out.
