Review of The Front Line (2009) by James H — 04 Oct 2009
This was an OK movie. It's been a little hard for me to put a finger on why it didn't completely work.
First, I think there was just too much exposition. Too many monologues that explicitly outlined the character's philosophy. Second, I thought the interweaving of plot and flashback was clumsy. I felt jerked around and confused a little bit.
*** SPOILER ***.
Finally, I thought it was bizarre how they handled the bad guy in the movie. He was the driving force for the entire plot, until about the middle of the movie, when he just basically disappeared. There was no final showdown, no standoff between philosophies, no final resolution of the tension between antagonist and protaganist. The antagonist just kinda vanished. I thought that was really odd.
*** END SPOILER ***.
Anyway, I am glad I saw the movie, but it's just average.
