Review of The Frighteners (1996) by Andrew B — 09 Dec 2010
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket finding his role in the afterlife as the caretaker of a cemetery's deceased denizens is a stroke of genius, as well as only a part of the charm that makes The Frighteners an excellent movie.
Surprisingly awesome with an incredibly morbid (and hilarious) sense of humor. The movie succeeds because the filmmakers know exactly what they wanted to accomplish, and didn't attempt to make it anything more than it's supposed to be, which is a thoroughly entertaining movie with a razor-sharp wit.
