Review of The French Connection (1971) by Jesper M — 18 Sep 2008
This is a movie of its time (it has the 70:s written all over it in capital letters), whitch might be the reason why it became so hyped up. Sure, Hackman is brilliant, the car chase is famous for a reason, and the score is moody.
I also liked the combination of the cops being so macho and at the same time slightly incompetent, making it more realistic. Other than that though, I felt it was a quite mediocre film in many aspects, and quite undeserving of the many prices it recieved (a solid proof of the synergy effect of a films different components).
It's entertaining, but overrated.
