Review of The French Connection (1971) by Anis T — 13 May 2009
Gritty action thriller from the seventies. The car chase scene is a stunner. Cars don't take to the air or get engulfed in three-storey high balls of fire but thrilling nonetheless. Or perhaps because of this.
The close-in camera work is quick, even jerky, but that supports the overall atmosphere of New York in the seventies. The ending isn't a convenient tying up of all loose ends and the story is all the better for it.
