Review of The French Connection (1971) by Leigh R — 07 Nov 2009
Talk about a masterpiece! It has the one of the best editing, performances, endings and scores in the history of cinema. It's a hero's journey who has a moral stain and he must follow his hunches.
Excellent sound, the car/train sequence it still pivotal (take for instance the fact that it was made 38 years ago). It's a cat/mouse game done with elegance and style. Heavily influenced by the new french wave, and the cinema verite, Mr.
Friedkin gives us one of the best crime thrillers ever made. It's "Goodfellas" but in the opposite way. GREAT!
