Review of The French Connection (1971) by Rob H — 09 Jul 2010
Producer William Friedkin was right; the book by Robin Moore is difficult to read, while Friiedkin organized the storyline in an entertaining way. The police work required long-time surveillence which is often dull, but the movie made this into a cat and mouse game between the police and their targets.
Hackman's portrayal of Eddie Egan helped the audience embrace him, despite Egan being a difficult person to admire.
