Review of The French Connection (1971) by Chris S — 31 Jan 2011
I appreciate that this movie was ground-breaking in its day, but I think by today's standards, it's thisclose to being a comedy about two bungling, racist cops who stumble into ... something they mystically divine could be a criminal conspiracy, that causes them to engage in stooge-like surveillance techniques, flagrant disregard for the 4th Amendment, and the reckless discharge of firearms that causes a lot of red paint to spill on the ground.
I give great deference to classics, appreciating that many don't age well, but I can't imagine this movie was ever not-laughable.
