Review of The French Connection (1971) by Sidney S — 25 Oct 2011
Awesome, breathtaking and suspenseful! William Freidkin's The French Connection is film making at its best. This great thriller features a great performance from Gene Hackman as reckless cop Jimmy 'Popeye' Doyle trying to track down a ring of French heroin smugglers.
The story is awesome and really well done, the music incorporated is awesome along with the gritty areas and tone to the film it gives it almost a neo-noir feeling like a great detective movie. The shootout scenes were well done, Hackman's intensity in the role is awesome he truly deserved his Oscar.
The ending is just completely awesome and breathtaking. The car chase scene in this film was absoultely thrilling, and teeth clenching and no doubt the best car chase sequence ever filmed. 1972 Academy Award Winner for Best Picture, no doubt.
