Review of The French Connection (1971) by Tom K — 27 Jul 2012
Watched it for the 1st time last nite with Rotalyn. Y'know, this movie got the Oscar for best picture in 1971, but it REALLY doesn't hold up well today. Slow, sparse dialog, thin on plot & character development, but gritty & gripping in the way it captures the streets of Brooklyn.
My hat's off to Hackman, who did many of his own stunts and some of the manical driving in the famous car chase scene. But, I'm not 14 years old anymore, so car chase scenes have kind of lost their appeal for me.
