Review of The French Connection (1971) by Alexander W — 06 Mar 2013
THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971).
Excellent film. Visionary film-making and a harrowing portrayal of one of the biggest drug cartel case in Narcotics history. Gene Hackman is sensational. Kudos to Popeye. While Fernando Rey as Alain is like a ghost. The direction is relevant even today. This film is such a huge inspiration for thrillers, neo-noir and crime movies. The shaky camera capture which RGV doesn't know how to do it the William Friedkin way is a masterstroke of realism. It's brilliantly paced. 20 minutes into the film, I was no longer sleepy and tired. Breathtakingly masterfully presented spying and chase scenes.
Rating:****/5, 85/100, 8/10.
P.s. Cut marks cause.....well.... watch the end. I wanted more of this cocaine.Lol.
