Hackman and Scheider make incredibly likable leads. I can just see Gene Hackman in a bar somewhere: "Yeah, so I hunted down a sniper all across New York, driving alongside the subway he was in, and then finally nailed him on the stairs to prevent further harm.
What did you do today?".
