Review of The French Connection (1971) by Paul B — 29 Jul 2014
A classic, mainly for fact the fact this set a template for supposedly 'tough' cop movies we see today. Gene Hackman is the cop who won't stop and with Freidkin's mental directing style the film grabs you by the throat and amps up the tension throughout (including one of best the car chase's you'll ever see, regardless of whether you believe it was shot in real traffic with Hackman driving).
Brilliant stuff.
